Pregnant. Had Glucose Test. Had Intense Stomach Pain, Vomiting, Diarrhea. Was It Food Poisoning?
I am 28 weeks and two days pregnant. I had the 3 hour glucose test this morning and made it through this time. Ihad dinner later, it was something very sweet. An hour later I began vomiting violently for over an hour and having intense stomach pain accompanied with diarrhea. I called the on call doctor and it ended up being obgyn and he said it sounds like something viral or food poisoning. He told me to take some zofran and lie down and if after an hour if I'm still throwing up and having diarrhea go to the ER. Well my vomiting and diarrhea subsided, however I began having cramping which hasn't stopped. It's already 3am didn't want to wake my doctor if I don't have to. I'm not sure whether I need to go to the ER or not. Thoughts? My email address is YYYY@YYYY
You're 28 weeks pregnant and you're not GDM. By history it appears to be acute gastroenteritis. It may be viral or due to food poisoning. You follow the instruction of the doctor. The main problem with vomiting and diarrhea is dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. Take necessary steps to rehydrate with adequate oral fluids. Take ORS solution also.
