Breathing difficulty, throat closing up after meal, headache, stomach cramps, diarrhoea. Reason, treatment?

I ate some chinese takeaway food yesterday and started feeling like my throat was closing up and almost as if I was having difficulty breathing a few hours after eating it. I suspected it may have been an allergic reaction , maybe to the MSG in the food (although I have never had one ever before) I took some antihistamines and it eventually went away. However, I woke up this morning and I have a pretty bad headache, stomach cramps and diarrhea . I m just confused as the symptoms this morning point to food poisoning yet I am not vomiting, and the throat closing points to an allergic reaction. It has now been close to 16 hours some eating the meal so vomiting would have happened by now. It would be great if I could get a response. Thanks, Thomas

Hi,

Chinese takeaway food is known to give allergic reaction in many patients which your initial symptoms indicated and antihistamine has worked.
Please continue antihistamine, may need oral steroids as per the order of our Doctor after clinical evaluation..
The further symptoms that developed like headache, cramps, and diarrhea can be due to allergic reaction and/or intestinal infection.
Send the sample of blood and stool to know the cause and get a prescription based treatment of an antibiotic if positive.
Take electrolyte solution and plenty of oral fluids along with symptomatic treatment.
Also take a PPI like Omeprazole and Domperidone for nausea.

I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant,
General Surgeon

After eating a take out meal on Sunday, I began experiencing stomach cramps, nausea and weakness. I am thinking In ingested unfriendly bacteria and it will run it s course. After taking probiotics I felt somewhat better, but today the cramps and nausea are still present. Please advise on the best treatment.

My son has been experiencing stomach cramping for almost five days. It started with what we presumed a flu (headache, diarrhea, cramping). The headache went away after 24 hours but the cramping still occurs sporadically, 2-3 times per day, lasts about 20 minutes then goes away. Not always around meals but he is not eating much as a result. He is still active an not showing any other symptoms. He has loose stools but is not going more frequently than normal (2 times per day).

Hi, I was hoping you would be able to help me. Since Wednesday, 4th Aug, i have been feeling off. After eating, I feel nauseous, and have been getting sporadic, painful stomach cramps. This became worse yesterday, at about 1pm, as I felt nauseous after eating, and this has now been a consistent thing. I have felt nauseous constantly since then... Today, I have had quite an acidic taste in the bottom of my throat, with the need to vomit, only to find that all I do is belch. However, I have been quite close to vomiting on a number of occasions today. I am becoming quite worried, Can you give me a little idea of what it could be, just to put my mind at rest, until I see my doctor.

Hey the past two months have been difficult. I ate at olive garden one night and had a weird anxious feeling and then had diahrrea bad. I didn t know if it was food poisoning or what. I thought it was over with by that point. I have now started having stomach problems like bloating gross feeling loss of appetite Gross feeling belching a lot and loose stools and weight loss because of the food issues. Some days are better than others but not well for 2 months now. I have gone to do blood work and came back regular and liver count was a little high because i was dehydrated from diahrrea earlier that day. Went to get ultrasound of my insides and everything came back normal. I dont know what.it.could be but i am still not well. Also my anxiety levels are sky high and have had 2 panic attacks along with these issues.

Hi I am 23 years old. Two nights ago I ate a lot of oysters and soon after began vomiting violently. After a while the vomit was nothing but pure neon-yellow bile . I went to bed and I have felt fine since. However, I just noticed that I am having pale stools--almost beige in color. Should I be concerned or is this a temporary side effect of the food poisoning? P.S.This has happened before when I ate oysters so I think I may have a shellfish food allergy .
