Painful Swelling Under Armpit. Done Tests. Prescribed Isoniazid. Any Suggestions?

Hi Doctor, This is regarding my father. He is 56, diabetic. Recently he developed little swelling under armpit which became painful. The swelling was in the lymph nodes. He consulted doctors at Apollo Hospital Indore and after exhaustive series of tests like Ultrasound, FNAC , CT Scan , nothing conclusive could be found. Eventually they prescribed Antibiotic Isoniazid , which seem to have reduced the size of swelling and pain to a great extent. However, on stopping the antibiotic pain started back. Any advise or suggestions on this would be grateful. Thanks, Rakesh

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
Let me know the associated details along with mentioned.
What was the report of FNAC?
What are other symptoms along with painful lymph nodes?
Isoniazid is an antitubercular medicine and itself alone is not sufficient for Tubercular lymphadenopathy.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist and general surgeon and should go for thorough check up.
He should also go for erythrocyte sedimentation rate and quantiferon TB gold for exact detection of tubercular etiology.
He should also go for excision biopsy of affected lymph nodes.
Treatment of suspected Tubercular lymphadenopathy persists for 6 months and confirmation of diagnosis is essential.
Take care,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava
