Pain In Wrist After An Injury. Needs To Be Checked?

Hi, I had a baseball game today and slid head first into third. I didn t feel any pain, but when the inning was over i bent my wrist to do something and the inner part of my right wrist hurt and i don t know why. Now a few hours after it still hurts when i bend it but not as much. Do you think I ll be fine with out getting it checked?

Hello there,

Thanks for the query.

I would suggest you apply an ice pack on your wrist immediately and intermittently for about 15-20 minutes about three times a day for 2 days . Have one tablet of NSAIDs like Brufen(if no history of allergy to the drug or gastritis) one tab three times a day after food for 2 days.Don't keep the wrist & hand hanging down, keep it in a sling .If there is no improvement after 2 days , please visit an orthopaedician to rule out a fracture at the wrist.

If there is severe pain and swelling at the wrist with restriction of movement or deformity , please visit the orthopaedician immediately.

Have a nice day,

Regards,

Dr.Divya Kuttikrishnan
