On birth control, have tender nipples. Get menses quarterly through the year. Is pregnancy test advisable?

The last few days my nipples have been very tender and I read that its a first sign of pregnancy however I am on a birth control pill where I only have a period every 3 months, and my next one isnt for about another 2 months, will a pregnancy test be accurate if I take one? Tender nipples is that a sign of anything else?
