My Husband Has A Huge Hard Lump Below His Sternum. Should He See His Doc Right Away?

My husband has a huge hard lump below his sternum. He says it does not hurt. I have never seen anything like this. He is 47 y/o. History of high BP and is a smoker. He weighs 310 and is 6 ft tall. All his past blood work in the past month has come back fine. We just discovered this tonight. Should he see his doc right away?

Hi lisa,

Welcome to HCM.
Yes he should consult a doctor. If the lump is abdominal and just beneath the skin it could be lipoma. If it is deeper, it could be originating from liver, stomach, pancreas etc. or it could be hernia as well.
To make the right diagnosis and manage it accordingly, a visit to a doctor is must and various investigations may have to be done including ultrasound study, endoscopy etc.

Hi

Huge hard lump below his sternum can be due to a Mid Line Hernia.

Its advisable that he undergoes an Ultrasound Abdomen for evaluation of th lump.

He should visit a doctor

If you can send the pics I can give a better and specific advice.
