Lower Back Pain For 3 Months. MRI Done. Options Other Than Surgery?
Good morning dr.
i am biji.I have low back pain since last three months .sevier pain.
in the MRI It shows Diffuse bulge of L4-L5 DISC with relative narrowing of Spinal canal diameter .
Disc extrusion of L5-s1 disc with narrowing of Spinal canal and bilateral neural foramina(left is more than right)
Dr suggested for surgery.
Is it necessary or we can change by physio therapy
Back ache is your case is due to degenerative changes in spine. Disc bulge is due to weakness in annulus fibrosis which allows intervertebral disc to herniate in different directions. Treatment options are physiotherapy and surgery. I think physiotherapy should be tried first. Long term benefits of surgery and physiotherapy are same. Physiotherapy causes strengthening of back muscles which decreases back pain. If pain is debilitating even after physiotherapy then surgery is last resort. Immediate pain relievers are rest, analgesics, ultrasound therapy and TENS therapy. Now a days, ozone ablation and radiofrequency ablation is also done in selected cases. Get well soon
