Left Ear Feels Heavy. Might Be Wax. Left Nose Is Blocked. Solution?

for about 2 weeks now my left ear feels heavy. i can hear ok but inside my head my own voice sounds muffled, like there is cotton in it. it feels like someone has there finger in my ear, i do use ear buds and once an end of one did come off in my ear and i got it out again, this doesnt feel the same. i think it might be wax on the ear drum, are there any drops i can use or something please? i am 24

oh this might help, my nose is blocked a lot, in one nostril, on my left side, no matter how much i blow it i still find it hard to breath through it, its almost like there is nothing inside blocking it but blowing doesnt do anything to clear it

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

You are doing two wrong things - using ear buds and blowing your nose. Let me explain. Ear buds can cause injury to the surface of the external ear canal and stop the cyclical flow of ear wax resulting in wax getting stuck; it can also push the wax deeper. Blowing nose hard can transmit the infection through the tube that connects nose with ear and send the infection into the ear.

If you cannot meet a doctor immediately, use the following drops - Otrivin nasal drops (Xylometazoline) for 5 days ONLY, two drops into each nostril twice daily. If your ear is not painful, no secretions, you still feel like wax is stuck use some drops such as Soliwax (ear wax softners) which could then allow the ear wax to come out naturally. If condition persists you need to visit an ENT specialist to get the wax removed.

Sreenivasan
