Knot In The Calf Muscles. CAT Scan Says Growth On The Bone. Surgery Suggested. Chances Of Dropped Foot?

I have a knot on the right leg calf area . It aches and has been doing it for about 2 years. My doctor did a cat scan and an xray and told me it was a growth on the bone that had been growing for years. He said that if it had never bothered me he would just ignore it. I am in constant pain. He gave me a cortisone injection and it still hurts. He then said that it is a growth on the bone about the size of a quarter. I will have to have it removed. He is worried that the nerve in my leg could be damaged and then I would have a dropped foot. I am worried that he is not capable of performing this surgery. He said it is a tumor that is benign. I need to have this removed , but I want to ensure that I have a capable orthopedic surgeon. He is an orthopedic surgeon but he sounds really worried about damaging the nerve. He said that the nerve in that area is very delicate and could be already in trouble. what should I do???
