Itchy Vulva, Bleeding During Sex, Foul Smelling Yellowish Vaginal Discharge. HVS Showed Yeast Infection. Medication?

Hi! I visited a gynaecologist with itchy vulva, bleeding during sex, yellowish and foul smelling vaginal discharge. I was asked to do an HVS and a pap smear. The HVS showed that I had yeast infection of candida species. The pap smear however was satisfactory with a lot of inflammation. I was given gyno daktarin vaginal capsules and was relieved for abt a week. Now, the itching and vaginal discharge is back again and I'm scared.

Hi and thanks for the query,

It good the specific infection was identified. Treatment of Candida Sp is generally not very difficult. Nystatine, Clotrimazole and Fluconazole vaginal tablets, or at times with additional oral therapy is usually sufficient. Hoewer, the doses and choice of the drug depend on the clinical appreciation of your doctor.

It usually depends on whether the client has been having recurrent infections or not, and trying to identify any predisposing conditions like diabetes. secondly, these infections are usually mixed. In your situation, a yellowish vaginal discharge could also be associated with a Trichomonas Vaginalis infection, which is a parasite and classically also presents as such. In this case, other antibiotics would have to be included into the management plan. Thanks and kind regards as I wish you just the best of health. Kind regards.
