Am I hypothyroid?
Thank you for the query. As per the history, you are a 40yrs old lady with a BMI of 26 kg/m2 (overweight). The symptoms that you have mentioned (weight gain, lethargy, coarse hair) are indicative of hypothyroidism. Menorrhagia, is another symptom of hypothyroidism. However, you need to undergo a complete thyroid profile (TSH, FT3 AND FT4) to confirm your diagnosis and thereafter start on medications (levo-thyroxine) Hypercholesterolemia is associated with hypothyroidism. In your case the cholesterol disorder may be familial. If you are not medications, for your dyslipidema, you can start on statin drugs (after consulting your physician). I would advise you to visit an endocrinologist for thorough check-up, further investigations and commencement of treatment. Hope this helps you out.
