Is Treatment With Amiodorone Successful Or Should I Have Chosen Ablation After By Pass Surgery?

I developed a fib about 7-10 days after heart by pass surgery. Chemical treatment got me to sinus rhythm within an hr. I have not had an episode in 6 days since and am taking amiodorone 200 mg supposedly for a short while 30-40 days. Is this treatment successful or should I have chosen ablation.

Hello
Welcome to HCM. Thanks for posting your query. I understand your concerns.
Atrial fibrillation is treated both by drugs and cardiversion. If it is benign and not associated with hemodynamic instability, amiodarone is the drug of choice. It's good that you have taken it. But this drug can't be taken for months together as it has side effects that affects the thyroid gland and eyes.

If you are getting repeated episodes of atrial fibrillation, better you go for cardiversion.

Hopefully this will help you.

Thank you
