Is Treatment For UTI Required If Urine Test Is Abnormal?

Hello, I am undergoing treatment at the moment of an infection which is believed to be UTI. I just had a urinalysis last week and the results show that I have 25-30/hpf pus cells and +1 albumin. The rest of the components show normal levels. I am not experiencing fever right now, but I occasionally feel pain on my lower back and even on my abdomen. I am 20 years old, female, with no history of chronic disease. I already consulted a physician and she gave me Cefuroxime 500mg twice a day for one week. I will have to repeat my urinalysis again and see if all the components in my urine be back to normal. I want to ask if in case I still have the same results on my repeat urinalysis, will I be advised to undergo more treatments? If so, then what are those treatments. One more thing, since I am a coffee drinker, does this mean that I have to stop drinking coffee from now on? Thank you so much and I hope to hear from you soon.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If your initial symptoms such as burning and frequent urination, fever is back to normal then most likely the urine analysis will be normal.
If symptoms persist you may need to do an uroculture to check which bacteria is causing it and take the treatment which comes out of uroculture.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
