Is Surgery Required For Small Fibroids In Uterus? Should Hormones Be Taken After Surgery?
I am a young, very healthy 61 years old. Today I learned that I have a 4 ,3 plus 2 smaller fibroids. Do I have to have surgery. Which type? Do I need to have just the uterus only removed? Do I need to take hormones after surgery? I had my nemopause since I was 50, and have not needed any hormones treatment. Thank you.
The best treatment for fibroids is a hysterectomy (taking your uterus out) as all other treatment options only lead to delaying of a hysterectomy which is in most women eventually conducted. The reason for the delay in conducting a hysterectomy is because most women belong to the reproductive age.
But as you have already attained menopause, a hysterectomy would be most appropriate. Although, your could try other treatment options if you wish to do so.
Hormonal treatment will be required mainly if your doctors decide to take your ovaries out as well, but if they are left behind, you may not require hormone therapy after surgery, at least not for long.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes.
