Is Needle Biopsy Needed For Detection Of Invasive Cancer?

I just completed radiation treatment for breast cancer(insitu) after 6 months I still have a 6 cm hematoma. The surgeon that did the initial biopsy wants to do a core needle biopsy now to now determine if I now have invasive cancer. An ultrasound & mammogram have just been completed with no signs of cancer. Is this procedure necessary?
