Hi Doctor, My daughter is 2 yeas old. she has high fever so i given her Mefanorm as prescribed by doctor last time. My question is that, For high fever is Mefanorm is as safer as Paracetamol? Is any antibiotic with Mefanorm as a combination is more effective? Please clarify my doubts. Thanks
Hi, Thank you for asking question on health care magic. Paracetamol is safer in a dose of 15 mg/kg 3-4 times daily to control high fever. It is more effective with tepid sponging several times depending upon the seriousness. Antibiotics should not be used without consulting doctor and without diagnosis. Hope this answer will serve your purpose Please feel free to ask any more queries if required Take care Dr.M.V.Subrahmanyam MD;DCH Associate professor of pediatrics
Hi Thanks for writing to health care magic. Mefanorm is not safer compared to paracetamol. It needs to be given only with high fever and not regularly like paracetamol. Mefanorn can cause gastritis and can cause gastric bleeding if the child haslow platelets ,which can happen in various viral fevers. Antibiotics are given only if fever doesnot settle after 3 days.
It is very good question for answer by a pediatrician as Patent you are suppose to five only paracetamol No any medicine unless you are advised by your child specialist. Hence you can give paracetamol for temp which you have recorded as more than 100 severe farenheit,Mo other medicine ok
