Is Low Body Temperature Related To Brain Injury?

My three year old son suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage about 16 months ago following septicemia and a Group A Strep infection. His temperature now sometimes can dip to as low as 32.8 degrees C. Is this all related to his brain injury or are there other possible causes we should be looking in to. We are desperate as these low temperatures are very frightening. He has global developmental delay and also suffers from digestive problems which keep him awake at night

I am sorry about what your son and you have been going through.
It is possible that when the hypothalamus is impaired from a hemorrhagic stroke temperature regulation might be affected as well since it is the part of the brain which regulates core body temperature.
However he should be evaluated for other possible causes as well. A hormonal panel must be obtained to judge for hormonal alterations like those produced by the thyroid, pituitary or adrenal glands.
Another possible cause since you mention digestive problems is also severe malnutrition.
Also please make sure first those readings are correct and reflect his true core temperature is correct. For those values a low reading thermometer placed in the rectum is necessary, also if the rectal thermometer is placed in the stool it can affect the reading.
I hope to have been of some help.
