Is It Safe To Take Biotin While Taking Laser Hair Removal?

Is it safe to take biotin while receiving laser hair removal treatments on the body? I m in between sessions of having the hair permanently removed on my arms and legs but am also trying to grow my hair longer and thicker on my head. I wanted to start taking biotin for hair growth however I do not know if this is counterproductive to the laser treatments and cause an increase in hair growth in places I do not want to see the hair (arms and legs).

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Laser hair removal works by destroying the hair follicles so they do not produce hair anymore. Biotin, on the other hand, although not clinically proven, is thought to contribute on the quality of hair. So, in this aspect, there would be no clash between the two.

However, biotin is known to cause breakout in the skin causing an acne flare, which is not something you'd want when receiving laser therapy. For this reason, I recommend you postpone biotin use until after your laser treatment is completed. Wishing you all the best.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ornela Ademovi
