Is It Safe To Take Cosacol 400mg For Ulcerative Collitis?

Sir,
My boyfriend is suffering fro ulcerative collitis since 2005.
It gets active every few months. Last May it was diagnosed as severe
ulcerative collitis. It was controlled in a week by the doctor. The
doctor we are concerning is giving him heavy dose medicines since
three years.
Cosacol 400mg is given 3 tablets 3times a day. Right now he is 22
years old. I am concerned after few years will his body resistance to
medicine will be the same ? The doctor has suggested surgery. Kindly
advice me what to do? Will surgery be safe right now? what are the
complications? should we concern another doctor? Can this disease be
cured without surgery?
Please help me and suggest me what to do. We live in Lucknow, India.
Thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello dear Nida , hi

Warm welcome to Healthcaremagic.com
I have evaluated your query for your boy friend in details .

* Body resistance to mesacol is usually not came across , but still current
dose regimen has to be tapered for sure , when the symptoms are in
proper control .
* Need of surgery depends upon so many parameters .

* Complications of the surgery as well as ulcerative colitis have its own
outcomes .
* Must seek a second opinion regarding the need of surgery .
* Best management can be possible with drugs , dietary modifications ,
life style changes .

Hope this will help you for sure .
Wishing him fine recovery .

Welcome for any further guidance .
Regards .
