Is It Normal To Have Pain, Difficulty In Eating And White Spots On Cheeks After Tonsil Removal?

I am 34 years old and had my tonsils removed on 10/17. i have excruciating pain on the right side with burning, unable to eat or drink. I have white spots on the inside of my cheeks and my tongue is white. Is this thrush or is this normal, caused by a laser?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain pain after removal of tonsils can occur for initial 3 to 4 days to maximum of one week while if the pain extends for more than this time duration, there is a chance of infection and needs evaluation..
White spots on the cheek can be apthous ulcers or canker sores that can occur secondary to trauma to cheek mucosa while surgery or can be a side effect of medicines that you might be given post surgery..
White coating on tongue seems to be most probably due to thrush that is due to yeast infection..
I would suggest you to consult your treating physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like scraping from tongue coating can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly..
In case of canker sores you can be advised to take vitamin B complex supplements, gargle with numbing mouthwash and take more of cool liquids..
In case if there is thrush you can be advised antifungal medicines like Nystatin mouthwash and Clotrimazole lozenges..
Take more of Yoghurt in diet as it is a probiotic..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
