Is Having Periods After Taking Doxycyline Hyclate For Infection While Being On Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo Normal?

I have been taking Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo regularly for over a year now. I was prescribed Doxycyline hyclate for an upper respiratory infection. I stopped taking it yesterday and today I have been experiencing what seems to be my period. Did the antibiotics affect my birth control? Is this normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is normal to experience irregularity in period while the body is under stress of infection. It is safe to take birth control with antibiotics. There is nothing to be worried about.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal, General & Family Physician
