Had it fixed went to the dentist for fitting and adjustment...got home and mouth began to get irritated with Canker sores etc and right under my jaw on both side is tender to the touch...been gargling with warm salted water and mouth sore rinse. Left side of jaw is slightly swollen. Actually it feels better with the partial in my mouth. What more can I do unil I get to my dentist. Also using cold ice packs on my jaw. Help
The canker sores as well as swelling associated with broken tooth which got fixed can be due to-allergic reactions of material used for fixing tooth.
This can often occur due to fracture of tooth involving pulp and thus spreading infection into Peri-apical area.
An x-ray of the tooth will help to evaluate the condition of tooth.
If necessary, tooth has to be root canal treated or extracted.
Usually antibiotics along with analgesics has to be administered in such cases. To prevent canker sores, vitamin b complex as well as iron supplements has to be administered.
hello thanks for posting query since you had broken your upper partial denture there might me some irritation that has been caused by it...that is why you have developed canker sores but friend you can make the diagnosis yourself without getting it examined by a dentist.. so please visit some dentist and get your oral cavity examined ... yes it happens sometimes in canker sores that the lymph nodes get swollen due to which patient feels like lumps below the jaw that become tender as well... you can help yourself by just- ... avoiding citrus fruits, acidic and spicy food.. ..brush properly your teeth with a soft bristled brush.. you can ask your doctor for an antibiotic mouth rinse and a corticosteroid ointment to apply in your sores .. please consult your doctor before taking any medicines...
your problem of getting canker sores, tenderness below the jaw, swollen jaw just after fixing tooth in denture by dentist, might be due to allergic reaction to any of the material used by the dentist or injury caused while fixing it. dont take any medications without showing to concerned dentist. i opine you to visit your dentist and let him examine.
According to your history i suspect broken tooth of your upper partial denture is irritating the oral mucosa and the trauma has lead to formation of ulceration or sore .
symptomatic treatment at home like gargling with lukewarm saline water or antiseptic mouthwash like chlorhexidine or betadine will help in subsiding the symptoms but the denture needs to be corrected to avoid further damage.
i would suggest you to visit the dentist and get the clinical examination done, SELECTIVE GRINDING of the denture will help in gaining occusal harmony.
avoid hot and spicy foods meanwhile and apply oral antiseptic and analgesics ointment to the affected area.
i hope this helps ,
take care.
