Intermittent Pain In Right Leg. Increases With Walking. What Triggers The Pain? Solution?
I have an on an off pain in the back of my right leg not exactly behind the knee but in the general area. I do have some varicose veins in the area not to big. When I do exercise or walk to much. at night pain will be higher. Goes on an Off depending on how much walking or on my feet during the day. I do have high cholesterol. taking medicine and watching my diet. weight is not to heavy. about 150 lb. what do you think triggers the pain? what would you recommend to do?
On and off pain which increases after walking or exercise is suggestive of intermittent claudication. There is higher chance of atherosclerosis in your right limb arteries. High cholesterol level and varicosity confirms it. In my patients i usually prescribe medicines to lower cholesterol level, antiplatelet agents such as aspirin and clopidogrel. These medicines helps in increasing blood flow to that area however block cannot be removed medically. If block is severe or not responding to medicines, i advise them to go for catheterisation of arteries or surgery best done by vascular surgeons.
