Inner Ear Swollen, Sore. Have Dry, Crusty Drainage, No Blood. History Of Ear Infection, Swelling. Cure?

Over the last couple days my inner ear has become quite swollen and sore (5 on a scale of 1-10) No apparent injury or damage that I know of and several mornings I have woken up with some dry, crusty drainage on the outside of my ear (white/yellowish in color) but no blood. I don't seem to have any colds or allergies or any other symptoms, although I have a history of ear infections or inner ear swelling, but never quite this bad or long. Have used a little isopropl alcohol in the ear after showering per nurses advice to make sure it dries the water out and no pain at all with the alcohol in the ear and I was told this ruled out a ruptured ear drum. Any help would be appreciated.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
From history it appears that you might be having external ear infection causing this problem.
Go for one antibiotic medicine course after consulting your doctor.
Put antibiotic ear drops.
Clean the ear with q-tip gently.
Do not allow water in the ear while taking bath.
Ok and take care.
