I Am Pregnant As Per Ultrasound But Why It Is Showing Empty Gestational Sac?

I went for an ultrasound the other day. According to lmp, I would be 7 weeks. The ultrasound showed an empty gestational sac, measuring 1.4mm. I was told I am 5 weeks 4 days. My hcg levels were at 24, 000. They have been doubling. I was asked to have a follow up ultrasound next week. What do you think? Could it be blighted ovum.

OBGYN 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
Usually by 7 weeks of gestational age, fetal pole with cardiac activity can be seen in ultrasound.
According to your history, the possibilities are:
-Wrong dates. Sometimes in case of irregular periods, last menstrual period can be wrongly calculated.
-Blighted ovum.

So, as your ultrasound is showing around 5 weeks of gestational age, better to wait for one more week and repeat the ultrasound.
In case of wrong dates, possibly fetal pole can be seen by that time.
Take care.
