first of all high cholesterol doesn't cause any symptoms by itself, except that there may be white patches around the eyes(xanthelasma) or cholesterol deposits (xanthoma). it's the complications of high cholesterol like coronary artery disease which produce symptoms
-according to latest guidelines management of high cholesterol depends on - level of LDL, diabetic or not, age, other risk factors of heart disease
-what I understand from your description is that your friend has regular physical exercise, so may be he requires medicines. but the dose of medicine depends on factors mentioned above
-please do get back to us with answer to above quarries so that we will be able to advice you better
thanks

Hi and thanks for the query,
Treatment involves both drugs and life style modifications. Other cormobid health conditions like obesity, hypertension, diabetes and kidney disease are also considered. The opinion of your internist and nutritionist could offer much comprehensive care. Kind regards

General & Family Physician Dr. Behar Greca's  Response
Hi, thank you for posting.

Hypercholesterolemia is a disease that is developed without symptoms. But after years high level of cholesterol in blood develops arteriosclerosis.
Arteriosclerosis causes limitation of arteries and blood coagulation.

The most frequent arteries affected are brain, heart and eye artery. This is risky.

If brain arteries are affected the patient has brain attack, that is followed by dizziness and temporary memory loss.

When eye arteries are affected the most frequent symptom is blurred vision.

And when the heart arteries are affected, myocard infarct is caused.

To prevent these symptoms your friend needs to control his diet, by:
-Avoiding egg yolk, animal fats and butter.
-Consuming meat 2-3 times a week.
-Minimizing carbohydrates.
-Consuming a lot of fruits and vegetables.

He needs a glycemic index test for diabetes mellitus.
The result will determine the diagnosis and the right treatment.

Lipid test is required every 3 months.
If the lipid test result show a high level of cholesterol(as you refer) I recommend him to use Lipanor(Ciprofibrate) 100mg 1 pill a day for 3 months.

I suggest him to contact a cardiologist.

Dr. Behar.
