How To Treat Chest Infection And Cough?

Hi, I m a 27 year old female who is around 6 to 8 weeks pregnant. I m 5 7 and weigh 200lbs. I suffer from seasonal allergies pretty badly, have had minor asthma, but never needed to use a fast acting inhaler to treat. I ve been experiencing excessive mucus in my chest area for the past two days. I have been using a humidifier since last night, drinking lots of fluids, and trying to stay well rested. My mucus has been staying pretty thinned out, but I m having an extremely hard time having productive coughs to clear and spit out the mucus from my chest. Constantly clearing my throat has started to leave it sore, and even harder to try and cough up the mucus. I m going in for my 8 week visit this Monday, but do you have any tips for effectively coughing up this mucus from my chest before I can see my doctor? Thank you for your time.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

Your symptoms seem to be related to a seasonal allergy.
I suggest to drink liquids and use a humidifier at home.
Meanwhile,I suggest using an antihistamine such as Cetirizine 10 mg which is safe to use during pregnancy.
I also suggest to rest.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
