It can also cause by allergy, pollution, chemical exposure at work place, exposure of cigarette smoke due to passive smoking etc. So antibiotics are not always needed. In my opinion, you should first get done PFT (Pulmonary Function Test). This will tell you about severity of the disease. And treatment of bronchitis is based on severity only. You may need inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS). Avoidance of pollution, chemical exposure at workplace etc are needed for proper control. Also get done adult Pulmonary vaccination with pneumococcal and Influenza vaccines. This will protect you from recurrent respiratory infection and thus bronchitis.
