Hallow Dear,

After unwanted 72, delay in menses up to about one week is expected and I would not be concerned about it.

You have mentioned that your periods are not regular; however, I would have appreciated the pattern of your menstruation in terms of regularity, amount of bleeding, periodicity, pain the days you bleed. Also age plays a major role in menstrual pattern.

Before you start any treatment, I would like to find out the route cause of irregular periods. First of all, please get your ultrasonography performed to find out whether you have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Evaluation of the blood hormones LH and FSH also will help you in this.

Moreover, study of the blood hormones and uterine lining will help detect many factors causing menstrual irregularities. In hormonal assays, along with the reproductory hormones like FSH, LH, Progesterone, Oestrogen, Prolactin, also get your Thyroid function evaluated by T3, T4 and TSH study. Thyroid dysfunctions also results in menstrual irregularities.

If no specific abnormality is detected, cyclical oral birth control pills can regularize your menses. However, they should not be taken without Gynaecologist's advise.

Your heavy bleeding on 3rd day should be controlled with in a day or two. If it does not, you may take Tab. Deviry till the bleeding stops. Then you may continue the pills for 21 days and discontinue to regularize the menses.

I hope this helps you initially. If you ask me direct question, we can discuss the issue more in details and I can guide you better.
