How To Reduce Weight While Taking Glipizide For Type 2 Diabetes?

yes, I m taking glipizide er 5mg tabs for my type 2 diabetes and injecting 1.2 mg of victoza each morning, my reading have averaging 90 to 94 the past month. I have been working out at a gym with a trainer 4 days a week. I have been working about 45 minutes with weights and doing cardio on a bike doing 30 minutes of interval training each time I work out. Despite all my efforts, I have only lost 6 lbs since Nov 1,2013. I am also seeing a nutritionist and follow my diet closely. Each day I m averaging 1200 calories, 15 grams fats, 145 grams carbs, 120 grams protein. I m really getting frustrated by my results. I m a 58 year old male, 5 6 tall and weight 211 lbs. Could the meds be holding me back? I ve spoke to my doctor about this, and was told to just keep trying. I would welcome any advice you could offer me, thanks

Hello & Welcome to HCM,

I had gone through the case and found that Glipizide ER does not cause the weight gain.

Go for some other blood test like Thyroid profile and Insulin level .

Normally Diabetic patient are difficult to reduce the weight. But if you follow the given diet plan with exercise for 30 minutes daily will help to reduce the weight and also control the sugar level.

1- Do Yoga exercise and walk 2km/daily with brisk walk.

2- Avoid all trans fats ( Chocolates, Bakery food, Refined flour item like Bread, Biscuits).

3- Avoid Yellow butter and take minimum quantity of and refined oil.

4- Early morning take 1/2 teaspoon night soaked fenu greek seed with 1/2 teaspoon Syzygium cumini seed powder with luke warm water.

5- Take tea without sugar and milk. 15 almonds night soaked with milk at breakfast. You can take 1 white egg in break fast twice /week.

Other days can take sprout/ oat/musile. Do not take cornflakes because it has high glycemic index.

6- Cereal should be one time in a day.

7- other time take protien diet like pulses/fish/chiken
8- Take fruits like apple, guava, papaya, pear. avoid citrus fruits.

9- Take all kind of vegetable in limited quantity.

10- Whenever feel hunger take plane roasted gram. When you feel hypoglycemic take resin or dark chocolate.

After following it definitely your sugar level will come down.
