Hi! You can surely reduce cholesterol through changes in diet and lifestyle. Cut down on your intake of fats/oils like butter, ghee, vanaspati ghee or hydrogenated fats. Avoid too much sugar, sweets and rich desserts for lowering triglycerides.
Instead of whole milk which has alot of cream, use toned or double toned milk for consumption. Include plenty of fresh fruits and raw salads in your daily diet. Have more whole grains like whole wheat flour or atta (hindi), oats and oat bran, brown rice or parboiled rice. Reduce intake of white polished rice and refined maida/white flour products like white bread, bakery items like biscuits and cookies, cakes, starchy foods like potatoes as they increase triglycerides. Cut down on oily food and avoid eating out frequently. Certain foods have proven benefits in reducing serum cholesterol like Oats and oat bran which when taken regularly as a part of low fat diet helps in significantly lowering cholesterol. You can have fenugreek seeds (methi seeds), flaxseeds (alsi in hindi) in powdered form by incorporating 15-20 gms in dishes like pancakes, idlis etc.

Having 3-4 cloves of freshly crushed garlic in the morning, including raw onions as salads in your diet also lowers cholesterol.

If you are a non-vegetarian, cut down on red meat. Instead have chicken without skin and fish (which is good for lowering triglycerides, especially oily fish). Egg white can be taken but remove the yellow part or yolk as it is rich in cholesterol.

Last but not the least, increase physical activity and cut down on sedentary activities like watching, TV, working on computer for long hours. Take short breaks and walk for 15 minutes in between to stay active and healthy.
