How To Lose Weight?

I am a 58 year old female who works as a mental health therapist. I sit all day, and have gained 70 pounds in 7 years. I also suffer from chronic pain in my lower back, lower legs, and now hands and feet. Every diet I have tried, I do not lose weight. Oh, I am also a diabetic II. What can I do to finally lose this weight?

Gaining 70 pounds in 7 years is not uncommon, but for a diabetic person is little on higher side. This also may be one of the reasons of your aches.
In long standing diabetics peripheral neuropathy is one of the cause of aches and pains.
Start aerobic exercise to the extent you can tolerate at present and increase to little higher level, it will also keep your sugar in control.
Get yourself investigated at the same time thoroughly including thyroid function test, and see your doctor with the same.
Try diet full of protein and fibers, less of calories and fat.Avoid fast food, drinks containing carbohydrate even diet drinks contain some carbohydrate.
You can consult a dietitian for the same.
Hope you will shed a little weight but certainly not gain if all the other invetigations are normal.

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear of this weight that you have put on. This is much and for sure would not help in controlling your diabetes and the joint problems. I think the real problem has been the lack of physical exercise. Always siting on the same problems makes you not to be able to burn the calories consumed in food. I will suggest that you strongly consider doing some friendly exercises. Also, work with a dietitian and significantly reduce the amounts of calories you consume to match your daily activities. Could you also sate your weight and height so that we can appreciate the extend of this excess weigh and see whether more aggressive measures like surgery could be considered?

I hope this helps. I wish you well.

Hi,
It seems that due to backache there might be having lack of active physical exercises.
Keep diabetes under control.
Observe strict diet control.
Go for regular walking, swimming five days in a week for 40-50 minutes daily.
Rule out hypothyroid as well.
Ok and take care.
