How To Control The Cholesterol Level Of 257 ?

My recent cholesterol test was high. Total cholesterol was 257, HDL 78, LDL 148, Triglycerides 161. I have smoked 1 to 2 packs of cigarettes on the weekends for the last 10 years. I do not smoke Monday through Friday. My blood test was on a Monday. Could quitting smoking really lower my levels or do I really not smoke enough to make any difference at all if I quit. I am 130 pounds, 5'4". I do 40 min of cardio every day and 25 min strength training 5 days per week. I eat a healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables, some sugar, but NO fried foods.

Hi welcome to HCM.
Youegular seem to have moderatly severe lipid abnormality in the form of Hypercholesterolemia and Triglyceridemia. These conditions should be promptly managed with drugs like Statins ex Rosuvastatin and Fibrates ex Fenofibrate.Regular brisk walk for 20min/day for 5 days a week can help to reduce the lipid content of the blood.Oatmeal for breakfast has excellent outcome on the overall results.Have a screening 2dimensional echo and a follow up lipid profile on a semiannual basis.Consult your Cardiologist for further queries.
