How To Control T3, T4 And TSH? Is Thyronorm Taken For Longtime Harmful?

I am suffering from hyperthyroidism and in July 2011 my T3-80, T4-5 and TSH 31.93, I prescribed medicine thyronorm 100mcg which resulted in reduction of TSH level at 8.3, My doctor increase dose at 150 mcg in March 2012 and reported reduction in TSH at 0.33 and alternatively increase in T3-90 and T4 at 9.9, He again prescribed dose of 100 mcg which again resulted in increase in TSH 10.9. I again at dose of 150 mcg in 21st Nov and my present level of T3-90, T4-11.4 and TSH 2.79. How can I control all of three? Is long term taking dose of 100 to 150 mcg of thyronorm is harmful to me?

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. You said you suffer from Hyperthyroidism. Is it so? Did you take Neormercazole before developing TSH of 31.93? We need to know this before I can suggest anything more. Thyronorm is a safe drug. Main aim is to keep TSH in normal range and if that is achieved, it is perfectly safe.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Binu Parameswaran Pillai
