How Many Doses Of Herceptin Does One Need To Take For Breast Cancer?

i have a relative who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She has got her surgery done and chemo has also started. She is diagnosed with HER 2 positive. Doctors have recommended her to take herception. My question is how many doses of herception does one need to take?

Her 2 neu is a specific receptor found on certain breast tumors. The presence of this receptor means that the drug Herceptin will be active against such tumors. It is given once weekly for 17 weeks. It is started along with the chemotherapy and continued after the chemo finishes. It can also be given along with radiation therapy if required. Its main side effect is heart dysfunction and is to be avoided in patients with a known heart disease.
