Thank you for posting your query.

incomplete history provided.
why block in esophagus? any other chronic disease at present? what medications were used?

anyhow, need further evaluation as soon as possible.
-you husband needs to undergo "colonoscopy" at the earliest to rule out any benign / malignant lesion.
-also Liver function test should be done alongwith complete blood cell count

meanwhile,
advice:
-warm water intake
- eat small meals
-"fresh oranges" and pear
- avoid COLD milk and yogurt and AVOID junk food(NO burger , pizza) altogether
- drink strong coffee (once only) on empty stomach to aid in bowel movement
- include fiber rich food in your diet
- OTC lactulose drug maybe used also
- simethicone tablet for bloating
hope the bowel movement would be normal.
any further questions are welcomed.

hope to answer your concern.
