How Effective Is Hydroxyzine Hcl For Cronic Migraines?

I am curious I was just prescribed hydroxyzine hcl 25mg for migraines. I don t know why since everything I have read it is used for itching, allergies, anxiety and as a seditive Is this effective in treating cronic migraines? Thank you for your time. Christene

I have noted your diagnosis and treatment prescribed.

You are correct and bang on target. Hydoxyzine is a medicine for allergies and not for migraine. So, you doctor has got it wrong.

For migraine, you should take sumatriptan or rizatriptan tablets.

If you have recurrent headache, you would benefit from preventive medications such as beta blockers, divalproex or topiramate.
