How Can Leg Fracture Be Confirmed?
I walked into a concrete post and hit my shin bone about halfway up I have very angry dark bruising from ankle to knee, it's tender to touch and walking /sitting is painful, the skin there is shiny and hot and my lOwer leg feels very tight, is anything likely to be fractured/chipped?

Based on your description of injury it is definetely a serious soft tissue injury but as you are walking around although with pain,the chances of fracture are less.
But x-ray has it's own importance,one can not deny that.Having said that my advice would be-
Rest,Ice fomentation,Ibuprofen to take care of pain.If the pain and swelling subside in 24-48 hours well and good otherwise get x-ray done to make things clear.
