How Can Hip Dislocation And Mild Fracture Be Treated?

Hi, my son is 4 years old. He has had joint laxity since he was born. His had congenital left hip dislocation and was operated for that twice. He had a fall just before his second surgery which was done to remove the plate in his leg. The doctor suspected a mild fracture but it was not visible because he was in lot of pain and refused to walk. He placed him in plaster for 6 weeks. After which he started walking slightly. One day he fell again while slowly running and his ankle twisted. He was bed ridden for quite some time beccause he had severe back painl. We got x ray done and the doctor determined that his L4 and L5 were compressed. He recovered aafter weeks of rest. But now a year since then after a minor fall is complaining of slight back pain......

Hello,

I have studied your case.

I will advise you MRI spine and if there is any cord compression with lower limb weakness then you may need decompression.
If anterior wedge of L4 and L5 is unstable then you may need fixation.

You need decompression if fracture is compressing spinal cord.
Decompression is necessary if neurological deficit or bladder involvement is there.

If there is no neurological involvement then conservative brace or rest is sufficient
If minimal wedge compression just bed rest is sufficient.
Later on follow rehabilitation and physiotherapy.

You may need to keep follow up of congenital hip dislocation with clinical examination and x ray.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care.
