How Can Ear Infection And Fever In A Child Be Treated?

My son last week was diagnosed with ear infection both ears and is taking antibiotics for the past 7 days. Fever returned 3 days ago even while on antibiotics went to the doctor yesterday and it seems that they are still infected. The medicine ends today and my son still has fever. Can it be something else or is it from the ear infection that hasnt reacted to the medicine. Our doctor told us to come back in three days but I am very concerned and do not want to have my child feverish for another day. Please help need 2nd opinion.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain in case if he has an ear infection, fever can accompany it and as the infection is still persisting it can cause the fever to linger..
Fever occurs when the infection enters blood from the site of infection, the body's immune system tries to wall off the infection and due to this there is a rise in body temperature..
I would suggest that he should continue another course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, fever reducer like Acetaminophen and decongestant oral as well nasal spray..
Antibiotic and analgesic ear drops can also be advised..
In case of no relief consult a Paediatrician and get him evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like blood tests can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
