hello doctor, My father is suffering from anxiety and may be panic attacks. My childhood was really awesome . Now , I never felt such bad feelings as these days I am experiencing. It seems I am suffering from same anxiety as my dad has. Am i really suffering from same disease or its just my thinking. Is anxiety transferred from genes too? If yes , then is it curable? Or if I been positive enough , can I overcome this anxiety even if it is genetic?Please help me i really need some physiological peace.

- There is no single gene that can predict risk of anxiety but anxiety disorder may run in family. Its risk is high in children of parents with anxiety or siblings of anxiety patients.
- Yes anxiety and panic disorder are treatable. Medicines like SSRIs as sertraline, fluoxetine, paroxetine etc are commonly used to treat anxiety.
- To over come the anxiety you have to try relaxation exercises, yoga, meditation etc methods. Progressive muscle relaxation exercises, Breathing exercises help to reduce the frequency of anxiety attacks.
