How Can Allergic Skin Rash On The Stomach Be Treated?

Over the last few days, my left side skin on my stomach area, has felt prickaly or inflamed and almost the feeling result of a moderate sun burn, however, I have not been exposed to sun. On occasion, I feel this on my lower back also along with some back pain. The feeling seems to be moving from my left front across the front of my stomach area, to the right side. It seems that Alka Selzer Plus helps to subside the feeling slightly. Its there anything else that I should be doing or be concerned about??

Hi,

The rash appears to be allergic rash due to food, plants or household items like laundry detergent check for things which make rash worse and avoid them. The other cause could be herpes zoster or Shingles, in the initial stage rash is non erruptive which may last for about 1 to 2 days followed by erruptive stage. In most cases after one to two days, but sometimes as long as three weeks, the initial phase is followed by the appearance of the characteristic skin rash.

The pain and rash most commonly occurs on the torso, but can appear on the face, eyes or other parts of the body. At first the rash appears similar to the first appearance of hives; however, unlike hives, shingles causes skin changes limited to a dermatome, normally resulting in a stripe or belt-like pattern that is limited to one side of the body and does not cross the midline.

Both the conditions can be taken care at home, use Calamine lotion on the affected parts thrice daily which you can buy from any pharmacy without prescription. OTC pain killers can help with pain caused by Shingles if the rash errupt, it is a self limiting disease and subside in few weeks. On the other if you find the allergen which worsen the rash avoid it to get rid of rash.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ayesha Shareef
