How Can I Stop Myself From Being Addicted To Xanax?

I m reading a lot about xanax being addictive. I ve been taking it for years: 1 mg at night (2- 0.5 mg tabs) and 0.25 mg in the morning ( one-half of a 0.5 tab). If I miss the night dose, I will have difficulty going to sleep and need to get up and get the dose. Am I becoming addicted, and what can I do about it? I m also being treated for major depression with desyrel, effexor, and lamictal. The lamictal was prescribed by a psychiatrist and the rest by my internist. Thank you for your answer.

HI
Thanks for using healthcare magic

That sleep disturbance may be part of depression or due to benzodiazepine dependence. If you want to control this dependence, you can try sedative antidepressant like mirtazapine or trazodone that would help you to decrease dose of xanax and also help to control depressive symptoms. Better to consult your psychiatrist about the medicine.

Thanks
