Welcome to HCM,
This is a viral infection caused by various virus, like Rhinovirus,Corona Virus,Adeno virus and Influenza.
See recovery takes place in 3 to 7 days, treatment is symptomatic like warm saline gargle, nasal decongestant and antitussive for cough.
Personal hygiene and and repeated hand washing is best preventive measure.
Although a INTERFERON NASAL SPRAY for prophylaxis for Rhinovirus infection.
Even addition of high dose of vitamin C is claimed to reduce duration of illness. In adults with good immunity these episodes are much less in numbers /year.
Common cold and flu should not be confused with allergic Rhinitis which is due to pollen and dust.
Take care
Good Luck

Hi! your symptoms of running nose and cold with variable fever and related to winter season without any other symptoms like dyspnoea, wheezing or expectoration of cough points toward allergic rhinitis , sinusitis or common cold.
To rule out deviated nasal septum and chronic congestion of paranasal sinuses you should go for caldwell view and water's view X ray and CT scan of para nasal sinuses and consult an ENT specialict with the report if any abnormality detected.
For the prevention of allergic rhinitis first of all go for detection of the possible allergens by panel test for allergy, then its better to avoid exposure to these agents.Avoid carpets, woolen clothing, keep windows closed, keep house dust free, avoid fur pets like cats and dogs.
If acute attack present then you may take levocetrizine 5 mg O.D., sodium chromoglycate nasal drop few drop twice a day, topical nasal steroid betnesol N. for fever paracetamol 500mg SOS. Sinarest tab 25 mg B.D. ,steam inhalation with tincture benzoin, vitamin c tab 500mg BD, doxycycline 100 mg BD on first day then OD for five days.
wish you well. thanks
