Having 3-6 Events Of Heart Beat Skips. Taking Amlodipine And Maxide. Cause? Suggest

Hi doctor Dr Grief, thank you for your time! My symptoms consist in typically 3-6 events of heart beat skips randomly distributed per minute. Each event is followed generally by a relatively stronger beat. I am taking amlodipine (2.5 mg/2X per day)and 1/2 tablet of maxide 75/50 for high blood pressure. Do you have any suggestion as to the possible cause(s)? Thank you again, Paolo

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

A beat comes earlier than normal – this itself is not usually felt. The next beat is a bit delayed - longer time to recover form early extra beat – so heart fills more and the beat appears forcible – thud / lubb - - dubb - - lubb - - dubb - lub - - - DUBB /

Anaemia / Anxiety / Alcohol / Tobacco (smoking) / Caffeine (too much tea, coffee, cola) / Fever / Infection / Pain / Stress / Thyroid / Vitamin D, calcium, magnesium / Medicines like Phenylephrine used for ‘cold’; Salbutamol used for asthma and so on - may be responsible.... At times, abnormal nerve paths in the heart (bypass tracts) or disease of the conduction system may be responsible!

The second drug has a combination of 2 diuretics – you need to check your electrolytes, especially potassium...

EKG / HOLTER (24 to 48 hour ambulatory monitoring) / ECHOcardiogram / TMT (Treadmill exercise ECG) / LABORATORY work-up – may all be necessary for further assessment and assistance.
You may even need Electro Physiological Studies (EPS)
Discuss with your doctor...
The treating doctor may suggest them depending on need, based on his assessment of the situation.

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
