Have Severe Pain. MRI Shows Swelling. On Valprol. Time To Heal. Side Effects?
My son age 11 faced a severe pain in head a year ago. When we get MRI it stated that there is a swelling size 7x7 mm. Our doctor prescribed us valprol 300 cr. He is taking it regulary since 1 year. Now in second MRI the size is 4 x 4 mm. I want to know how long the medicine will continue and will there be any side effects of this. Please guide
The drug Valprol Cr is an antiepileptic, that is most likely prescribed in your son to reduce the chances of seizures that persists in any space occupying lesion of the brain. The duration of medicine to be taken depends on the risk of seizures assessed by the doctor which in turn depends on the lesion present in the brain. It depends on the judgement of the doctor, there is no hard and fast rule to take it for a particular duration. The drug do have side effects, common ones being weight gain, sedation and changes in the liver. A liver function test (blood test) can be done to check the current status of the liver.
Hope this helps, Dr A Rao K
