Have Pain, Aches In The Breast. No Medication Till Now. What Could Be The Reason?

I have been getting mild twinges of pain in my left breast/heart and to a lesser extent also on the right side but nearer to my nipple for about 10 days and the side of my left breast aches. Its like a muscular spasm almost like a mild electric shock. leaving a general achey feeling. No cold or cough. I am 53 and a bit overweight - size 16 to 18..

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and thanks for the query,
Its important to ascertain whether this pain is superficial or from a deep organic lesion (heart, lungs), it deserves a very serious evaluation. A physical examination and a Chest X ray might be very useful. An electrocardiogramme is important to exclude a cardiac lesion, and consequently a cardiac ultrasound. Acute heart syndromes or coronary events are quite common today and must be excluded. Lung disease and rheumatologic disease, like Triezt syndrome could cause superficial pain.
I suggest you consult your physician for a proper evaluation. thanks and hope this helps,
Best regards,
Luchuo, MD.

Oncologist, Surgical Dr. Rohan Khandelwal's  Response
Dear Ma'am,

Sorry to hear about your problem. You are probably suffering from fibroadenosis, which can cause mastalgia (or breast pain). First of all you need to get yourself evaluated from a breast surgeon, who will get a mammogram/ USG (depending on your age).
To treat this condition, in addition to a pain killer, you can take vit E capsules. Cutting down on caffeine intake also helps in reducing this pain.
