Have Fever, Bitten By A Cat. Shots Of Anti Tetanus, Immunoglobulin And Anti Rabies. Should I Fear Anything?
Hi, doctor. I was bitten by a stray cat on my left foot last Aug. 17. I was given complete shots of anti tetanus (Immunoglobulin & toxoid) and antirabies (Berirab & Verorab) within 24 hours in the hospital. I'm also on antibiotic treatment (Co-Amoxyclav), 625mg/tab. BID to which 5 doses I have already taken. I'm due to have another shot of Verorab today (Aug. 20- D3). However, I have fever with a temp. of 38C. Can j still be given antirabies (Verorab) today? Should I be alarmed and see a physician Immediately Thanks, doctor!
you need to check whether there is any redness or swelling at the area where you were bitten by the cat. If there is none than mild fever is a reported side effect of anti rabies vaccine. you may go ahead and take the shot. But if you have any other symptom along with it like rashes over the body, breathing difficulty than you may consult a physician as soon as possible. If you do see swelling, redness and pain at the site of cat bite than you have to visit your doctor who might want to change the dosage or type of antibiotic and add some anti inflammatory
wishing you a speedy recovery regards Dr. Gaurav
