Have Emotional Rush, Hot Flashes, Decreased Sexual Desire. Taken Escitalopram And Vivelle Patch. Side Effects?

My doctor is weaning me off of the vivelle patch. I am 64 years old. I have been experiencing crying spells and my emotions are on edge. I also have hot flashes 2-3 times a day. She has prescribed 10 mg of escitalopram per day to help me through the depressive symptoms. My concerns with the medication are possible side effects of decreased sexual desire, which is already low, and increased appetite. Any advice?

tapering Vivelle is okay because it can cause many adverse effects, hot flushes may be due to it's withdrawal. decrease libido is also a manifestation of withdrawal from Vivelle and treatment with escitalopram. The latter can cause increased appetite and weight gain in some patients,
You should discuss the problems with your physician, switching to another antidepressant may be helpful.
a regular lifestyle, exercise and yoga and a balanced diet can improve your health further.
