Have Dry Tongue, Weight Loss. Taking LighterLife Plan. Help

I have a dry tongue (at the rear). I drink alot of water (approx 4 - 6 litres) which I in my opinion rules out dehidration. In the past year I have lost 9 1/2 stone on the LighterLife plan. I have been maintaining for the last four months & eating proper foods. The dry tongue started whilst I was on the total plan ( packs only) but has continued now I am back on normal foods!

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Dry tongue may occur due to-decreased salivary secretion, dehydration, increased caries incidence, medications.

I would advice you to visit a dentist and get thorough evaluation done.

Salivary substitutes has to be administered depending on severity of lesion.

Meanwhile, take plenty of fluids as well as fruits.

Dentist Dr. Qazi Ammara's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

Dry tongue occurs due to use of certain medications like hypertension, diuretics, urinary incontinence, smoking, chewing tobacco, nutritional deficiencies, dehydrations.
As you have mentioned you are drinking plenty of water, i would suggest you to use sugar free chewing gums.
Visit to the Dentist and get a checkup once.
Breathing through your nose and not from your mouth.
Take multivitamin suplements.
Take lukewarm saline gargles and antiseptic mouthwash .
Use fluoridated toothbrush and brush your teeth twice daily.
Avoid smoking habit for some days if present.

Hope this helps out,

Regards..

hello
thanks for your concern
its good if you drink 4-6 lts of water daily but first of all we should find out the underlying causes of dry tongue. these are-
-side effect of certain medicines , some diseases &infections, some medical treatments
- nerve damage
- dehydration
- surgical removal of salivary glands
- smoking , chewing tobacco and mouth breathing
...so dear may be these causes can help to find the root of your dry tongue.
if you do then please consult your general physician as soon as possible.
for the meanwhile try following-
..suck sugar free candies or chew sugar free chewing gums
..drink plenty of water
..protect your teeth by brushing with flouridated toothpaste as dry mouth can lead to caries in your teeth
..visit your dentist regularly
..breath through nose and not mouth
..use room vapourizer to add moisture to your bed room air
take care
hope it helps
